the big and small of it

In our home school we use dry erase markers often.
Our big, thick ones have all run out.
I thought it would be easier to use the thinner ones.
The kids are older and we do do alot of writing on the board.

One kid bucked the idea of new sized markers, the other...had a ball!
Actually I think they both worked on this masterpiece.
We seem to have a new drawing on the board everyday.
I am totally thinking of keeping this up when we are done with school.
Or maybe painting chalkboard paint, even if it's not a fade by then.

Sat. hubby and I are going here.
Sam's Club.
We had a membership a long time ago.
We only went a few times a year.
It didn't seem to work for us.

However, after talking to some ladies who are sam's go-ers, we are going to try it again.

I need your help though (so I don't look as unpleasant as the lady in the above photo.)
Do you go to Sam's or Costco or the like?
What are you tips?
What do you buy/not buy?
What do you do for storing it all?

I think I could be like a kid in the candy store and buy, buy, buy.
Another concern, having two teenagers we are thinking we are going to have to "ration" the bulk items so they don't eat a huge bog of cereal in two weeks.

Again, any and all suggestions are welcome.  thanks!

random

This photo doesn't really due the subject justice.
This is a side effect to homeschooling...science staining your sink.
Thank God for Comet!

I made granola.

Son has been photographing our garden's progress...I liked this perspective.
...and this...the inside of an iris.

I made these with leftover ham.

Moving on up...

life

I have been thinking about what to write for today's post.
So many bloggers have such lovely posts on Easter, the real meaning.
Then I saw this on FB...

Our friends just had their baby.
So helpless, so innocent.
The way he is reaching out, really says it all.

Jesus is my everything, my all.
Twenty-one years ago I gave my life to Jesus.
He took me as I was, broken and in desperate need of a savior.
I probably looked much like this newborn.
God picked me up and comforted me, just like I know my friend did.
He forgave me of all the wrong I did.
I honestly, can't say enough about how much God has done for me.
This past year He has been especially close and I can't wait to see my Savior again!

Happy Easter!

1st and 2nd place

Last week our daughter won 1st and 2nd place in the county writing fair!
We had no idea what place she got until they called her up!
(She looks like she's being comforted by the ladies her, but they are asking for her autograph!)
(Another pride moment for me...the lady at the microphone always discouraged me when I went to her and signed them in as homeschooled.  Sometimes it just feels good!)

She pretty excited!  First time she placed first!
We are very proud!

Spring Pics

Spring has sprung here.
I will try not to bore you with too many flower pics.
Here are a couple...

Our peonies...my fave!  we have these pink ones and white ones.
Son took the peony photos.

A couple of weeks ago we planted a small garden.
Tomatoes, bell pepper, herbs, pickles (cucs) zuccini (two kinds), strawberries, asparagus and two kinds of greens are doing good.  Oh, onions too.  They are just sprouting.  We haven't had a garden in awhile so this was fun.  This area was once home to some box turtles.

Can you see it?  GRASS!  Son and I planted some seed a few weeks ago.  This area was bare.

It came in in patches, but it's a start!
I have been going back and planting more seed in the bare spots.
Along with all of the grass we have weeds, tons!  I go out there and pluck away and you can't tell!
Hope your day is colorful!

Do you...?

When magazines come to your house...
do you go through them before anyone else can...
to censure rip out and trash all of the immodest photos and/or ads?
While most of the mags we get are "clean" I still go through everything.

today...

*school went so good that i still feel like we forgot something.
*the wind is threatening to blow hard and fast like the other day (some say 80 mph).
*son came to me and said, "i think i just swallowed a lego."  after call to hubby, dr. (who said to take him to the er for x-rays, and dear friend of boys with legos AND asking son a ton of questions, we are going to take my mother-in-laws famous words "this too shall pass" approach.  it was really small and smooth, by the way.  he swallows bigger chunks of food.
*at lunch daughter almost chokes on her hot dog!
*tonight we are going to an awards banquet for daughter who is being recognized for her writing in the city wide writing fair.  maybe we'll run into some of our public school friends.  plus they lowered the ticket price so we all are going!

but they always make up at the end.

Gov. Shut Down

Since "everyone" is talking about the government shut down I thought I'd join in.

For us personally, it affects us directly.
Hubby would not go to work or get a paycheck.
The solution for his work right now is that everyone's coming in today (their Friday off) to work.

Are we nervous?
Not really.  While we are on a tight budget, I think we could handle it for a short time.
Eat mac-n-cheese and hot dogs...cheap food.
I know that God will take care of us.
I believe that the closer Jesus's return come the more we are going to have to depend on Him.

I know if the government shuts down for a few days or more, most everyone will be affected somehow.
How/Will this affect you?

Santa Fe part 3

The State Capitol (The Roundhouse) was really the highlight.

We got to check out the House and the Senate.

C got a kick out of the cameras.

We were allowed to walk all over the place.
The capitol features a BUNCH of art by NM artists.
I got a kick out of this photo of a photo.

Ok, these are out of order.  This is a close up of the last photo.
The whole bison was made of recycled items, paint brushes, film strip, newspaper, you name it it's probably there.

Do you see the pencil sharpener as the eye, and the spoon?

We are on the 3rd floor here.

Here's the bison.
I think it was everyone's fave.
