Chinle Az

My hubby and joined the youth to Chinle Az. for a youth rally Friday and Sat.
Here are some photos from the trip.

First it took about 8 hours to get there with stops and everything.
All in all it was a good ride.
Chinle itself is on a Navajo reservation.
Some things that stood out were the elementary school looked like a prison.
Barbwire and all.
Horses roamed near the streets.
They had one stop light and no trees.
Oh, the babies.  There were a lot of them in the church.
I have to admit that I LOVE to pinch (softly) big, chunky cheeks.
I had to sit on my hands every time a momma and her baby walked by.

When we got to the hotel, it took awhile to check in so we all hung out on the courtyard.
And as reservations go, there were dogs.
No joke, about 8-10 dogs came out of no where.
Three of them stayed and hung out with us.

Here's our group in front of the Chinle church.
 Driving through Chinle.
Sat. morning the guys had a men's discipleship class, so the girls and I had breakfast at the hotel and hung out.  I had Native blue corn pancakes...YUM!
Since the guys got done early, we left early and went to Window Rock.
 Here's a Navajo Code Talker.
Here's a funny group shot.
We had a great time.   I would go again.
Another confession...we live near an Indian Reservation and I hate to say this but I have had a hard time talking to them.  It's as if I cannot connect with them.  The Navajos are different, especially the ones in Artie's church.  It felt good.
